Michael Tejeda's President's Pen, February 2012
Several times in the past several weeks people have told me how wonderful it is to feel all of the energy on our campus. January has been a busy and often hectic month.
At the end of December we accepted 42 new students into our pre school. We also integrated new teachers into our faculty. After a very busy week of cleaning, painting, and moving furniture, Gan B’nai Shalom was reopened for business. This was a successful effort but there was still a lot more work to do.
During the first three weeks of January there was a lot more cleaning, painting and sorting. We installed a completely new fire alarm system. As I write this, all class room doors are being upgraded with fire retardant paint, fire rated glass and automatic door closers. All of this work is scheduled to be completed by the end of February at which time we will receive our final clearance from the Contra Costa County Fire Prevention District.
Also in January we honored Chazzan Marc Dinkin for his 20 years of service as our Cantor, spiritual guide, teacher, counselor and friend. On January 7, 250 people gathered at the Crow Canyon Country Club for dinner and dancing, dedications and toasting. The Shabbat service on the January 28th was also in celebration of his service.
As a result of generous donations we have been able to upgrade our entire computer system. The Nominating Committee has begun meeting in order to find candidates to fill the various positions on the Board, Executive Committee and the President.
February will see the beginning of a process of upgrading various aspects of our campus. A list of the projects will be published soon. We are looking forward to a busy and productive 2012.
